What is Pour Stop?

A pour stop (also referred to as concrete stop) is a bent steel angle installed around the perimeter of a concrete slab or at interior openings when pouring concrete over metal deck. Its primary role is to prevent wet concrete from flowing past the intended edge of the slab during placement.

Pour stops for metal deck is most commonly used with 1.5″, 2″, and 3″ composite floor deck and form deck systems, where concrete is poured directly on top of the steel deck.

Primary functions of pour stops include:

  • Containing wet concrete during the pour
  • Controlling slab thickness at edges and penetrations
  • Creating clean, defined slab edges
  • Preventing over-pouring and material waste
